Optional forms of employment, i.e. how can you hire an employee?


Work is usually associated with performing duties at the company's premises, during fixed hours and without additional days off - this is certainly the most popular form of work. Traditional work models work well in many enterprises, but they will not always be the best solution - sometimes optional forms of employment will be the most appropriate.

Optional forms of employment - what is it actually?

The emergence of new forms of work performance is closely related to the development of the market. The emergence of new professions and industries also forces us to find an optimal way of organizing work for them, because what has worked before will not always be good for representatives of new specialties.

Importantly, new professions are often related to the creative process and require a lot of creativity. It also means that atypical working hours, their flexibility or treating employees more individually, help to use their potential.

The employees of the generation entering the market themselves want the employer to treat them as individuals, and it is important for them to adjust to their predispositions, talents and preferences, as well as to the way they work. Effects are also important for them, not the work process itself, which is why they value flexible working hours so much.

New forms of employment - types

It is difficult to precisely distinguish and name the optional forms of employment used by employers, however, the most popular are:

  • self-employment - often employees start their own business and conclude cooperation agreements, contracts for specific work or mandate contracts with employers. It is true that this type of work entails the need to independently pay ZUS contributions and income tax, but it also gives a lot of freedom in organizing work, and also, if it is not stipulated in the contract with the employer, allows you to provide services also to other companies,

  • freelancing, also known as freelancing - the basis for this form of employment is usually a contract of mandate or a contract for specific work. The freelancer himself is usually a person running his own business with whom a shorter or longer cooperation is undertaken. Usually does not work at the company's premises,

  • part-time work - employees are employed on a part-time or part-time basis, so they can also take up employment in another company or devote their time to something else. Part-time work is a good solution for students or pupils and young parents,

  • shortened working week - works similarly to part-time work, however, the employee shows up at the place of performance not every day, but only on certain days, sometimes also works longer than 8 hours a day,

  • teleworking - this form does not provide for permanent jobs - employee duties are performed via the network and by phone. This way of organizing work requires a lot of discipline, but brings a lot of benefits to both parties - the employer does not bear the costs of equipping the workplace, and the employee can work from home,

  • rotational work - an employee moves between several work stations. This prevents stagnation. Thanks to this system, an employee has a chance to find a position that is just right for him. The exchange between a permanent employee and a replacement employee from outside, e.g. an unemployed person, is also treated in this way,

  • work-sharing - tasks are divided between a certain number of employees,

  • job-sharing - two or more people take up one-time employment. They share their duties freely and set the working hours on their own. Thanks to this, they avoid routine, are more creative and engaged.
