Internet fame, or popularity for nothing?
Fejm - surely if you follow what is happening on the Internet, you have seen this word many times. The response is usually negative. But is fame rightly considered a bad thing, and can it really be described as popularity worthless and for nothing? Have the people who are known from the Internet in no way deserve popularity and do not present anything by themselves? Why are young people so eager to choose among them people whom they treat as authorities?
Ask.fm - the birth of the festival
A few years ago, the so-called fejmy from ask.fm. Suddenly, someone completely unknown to the general public appeared in the popularity rankings, and usually it turned out to be a person who gained popularity by answering users' questions. Often known and liked were slightly controversial people, sometimes it was about colored hair and tattoos, sometimes about truancy, expressing views openly, other times young people were attracted by a carefree, lavish life. But just as often, popularity was artificially inflated. It is on this portal that asking for likes and observing in exchange for the same or similar benefits began to be downright intrusive. Today, there are so many "people from the Internet" who have gained popularity that people who are in demand on the portal have gone somewhere to the margin. Which does not mean that no one is interested in likes anymore, and only those who carry out really ambitious projects gain popularity.
I am giving away from the notifications - fame for fame
Nowadays, for some young people (and without generalizing, not only for them) virtual likes, hearts and followers are of great importance. The goal is to get as much fame as possible, which has virtually no explanation. Usually, it's not about popularity that is going to turn into a business (although it does, but it's a separate issue). It's just about gathering your "friends" and treating it as something to be proud of. It is enough to visit any popular profile on Instagram to see that most of the comments are "I give away", "I give away from notifications", "l4l, f4f". What is going on? For reasons that are not fully known, it is about liking. Such practices are widely used on the ask.fm portal that we already mentioned. The collected hearts under the answer did not mean that someone told about something important and many people agreed with him. It is primarily a click with the hope that the person will repay and "give back" the heart. Since Instagram is so popular, this practice has also been applied to it. People "like" (l4l - like for like) and follow (f4f - follow for follow), they even make contests with prizes in this form. The only question is what really? Probably for nothing, and the only motivation is to show the most likes under the photo.
Fime from the Internet
We have already mentioned the pointless exchanges of likes and observations. However, does the internet fame come out of nothing every time? It is impossible not to notice that youtubers have become extremely popular among young people recently. Their appearance at various events arouses unbridled enthusiasm in the fans who appear en masse at such meetings. They can travel hundreds of kilometers to meet their favorite creator. It doesn't matter if his popularity is due to the fact that he plays and broadcasts for hours, or shows what he bought today. Is this kind of fame empty and pointless? It is difficult to answer this question unequivocally. Such people often become an inspiration for young people and convey a lot of useful information in films, even if they do not do unusual things on a daily basis. Of course, they sometimes trigger an unhealthy rush for popularity, because young people often want to be liked and known as well, but something attracts hundreds of thousands of viewers to them, and why shouldn't they take advantage of it?
It is also not entirely the case that all of these people's productions are shallow and pointless. Often, even very young people create films of excellent quality with interesting content that conveys “something more”.
Fejm - look at it from a different angle
Should you protect your children from admiring fame? Is it something bad? Let's look at it from a different angle. We often say that our childhood idols at least contributed something with their activities, but let's think it deeply and think about whether there really is a difference between a slightly older generation that sighs for the photos of Enrique Iglesias or Britney Spears? Youth has its rights and we often forget that we did the same thing ourselves, and that the world is developing, the Internet has become universal, it seems natural that nowadays young people chose those whom they watch online on a daily basis. What will grow out of them? Let's not worry about that. After all, we all grew out of this kind of infatuation.
Let's remember that the internet fame is not only evil, lack of intelligence, shallow behavior. The example of young people who are successful can also motivate people to reach for more. It may not always be positive, but if it can help, doesn't the end justify some of the means?
Each generation loves something different. Each is engaged in something different. However, we often forget that there is nothing wrong with it and we try to lead them to the "right path". Of course, it should be realized that the liking under the photo and the additional follower do not really matter, but trampling their idols at the start will not cause anything but rebellion. Even if their show is about showing their 10 favorite cosmetics.
